Ion Tamaian’s unique creations have become well known in Romania and throughout the world. His artistic-functional glass sculptures have been sold in galleries stretching from Western Europe to Japan and Hong Kong.
Before graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Cluj-Napoca, Tamaian spent his youth in the Romanian village of Bordlesti. He was influenced by the simplicity of rural life, as well as the glassblowers in the local factories.

The beautiful sunflowers and acacia trees of Transylvania were as much a part of his childhood as the mines and factories of pre-revolutionary Romania. This combination of traditionalism and modernism is evident in Tamaian’s works of today; inspired by the old ways, he breaks through this realm into a new and ever innovative world of glass art. Tamaian gets his inspiration from everyday life, creating functional works of art which highlight almost any decor.
